If a team answered incorrectly or ran out of time (three seconds after being called upon, the other teams were given a chance to answer. A team who answered correctly moved down to the next level. A team attempting to answer signalled by stomping on a button on their step, causing the front of the step to illuminate (if Olmec was still in the middle of asking a question, he stopped talking immediately). Each multiple-choice question had three possible answers.

In the first round of the show, the six teams attempted to cross a narrow swimming pool known as "the moat" in a prescribed manner. Each team was identified with a colour and an animal indicated on their uniform shirts: the Red Jaguars, Blue Barracudas, Green Monkeys, Orange Iguanas, Purple Parrots, and Silver Snakes. In each episode, six teams of two contestants began a three-round competition to determine which team earned the right to enter the temple. In addition to providing an artifact, the legend also was important to other aspects of the show: the Steps of Knowledge used questions based on the historical legend, and the theme of the temple games was also loosely based on the legend. Olmec also serves as the basis for the logo. Each episode centred on a particular legend regarding an artifact (real or fictional) from around the world that found its way to the temple. Olmec narrated the stories told in the steps of knowledge and temple game challenges (although in the first season, Fogg narrated the temple game challenges). At the temple's gate was a talking Olmec head simply named Olmec. It included areas for different types of physical challenges: a broad but shallow pool of water (the moat), a set of steps (the Steps of Knowledge), and a large, two-and-a-half-floor vertical labyrinth (the "hidden temple"). That team then has three minutes to roll the dice to move through the Temple side of the game board, retrieve the lost treasure, watch out for Temple Guard cards and other obstructions, put together the three-card Silver Monkey puzzle, and exit the Temple.The set design of Legends of the Hidden Temple was based on the Indiana Jones movies, and has been described as a Mayan. The team who wins two out of three games gets to move on to round four, The Temple Run. This is a best two out of three scenario. There are three games to play in Temple Games: a cup-flipping game called Golden Cup of Belshazzar, a ball-bouncing game called Galileo's Cannonball, and a card-slapping game called The Smashed Printing Plate of Frederick Douglass. The two teams who move on to round three, Temple Games, compete for Pendants of Life. The questions come from the Book of Legends and are read aloud by the Olmec player. In round two, The Steps of Knowledge, you must be one of the first two teams to answer two questions correctly. Eliminated players get to take on the role of Olmec and Kirk Fogg, the talking rock head and host from the game show. Everybody is rolling at the same time, and the first three teams to make it across the moat and back again advance to the next round.īut don't worry if you don't make it.

But be careful because if you roll the symbol of the team logo to your left, that means you've fallen into the water and you must return to start. When you reach the other side, it's your teammate's turn to roll the die and bring the mover back. When it does, you move your team's mover one space across the game board. That involves rolling a die so that it shows your team's symbol. In the first round, The Moat, you've got to cross the moat. And also like on the show, you'll be competing either in teams or individually through four rounds in an attempt to make it to the Temple. But you do need to retrieve a lost treasure and successfully escape the Temple, kind of like on the show.
